TASER International Inc. disclosed that it has won an order for 2,500 X26P Smart Weapons from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (“JSO”) in Florida.
Under the order, TASER will upgrade 2,500 previous-generation weapons to the latest X26P version. The new TASER 60 annual payment plan, which provides warranties and on-spare equipment for these devices, will be used during the five-year order period.
The company received and shipped the order in the second quarter of 2016.
According to Rick Smith, CEO and co-founder of TASER International, the company aims to deploy TASER CEW to every officer so as to avoid injury or death in as many cases as possible. He believes that “JSO is making an important move toward a world where every officer has the best technology and training to minimize the chances of a deadly encounter."
TASER 60 is a new plan that includes a five-year annual payment. It combines warranty coverage for an agency's existing TASER Smart Weapons with on-site spares so that officers don’t have to face any downtime. The annual payment plan allows consistent budget-line items throughout the period of the order.
The plan features two types of coverage – Basic and Premium. Under the Basic plan, agencies will receive one Smart Weapon under warranty, one battery, on-site spares (provided with the purchase of 30 or more devices), a holster and two training cartridges for a monthly cost of $22 (X26P) or $26 (X2).
The Premium plan, on the other hand, includes an additional battery and 18 more cartridges (for a total for 10 training cartridges and 10 duty cartridges) apart from those covered under the Basic plan. This plan costs $31 (X26P) or $36 (X2) a month.
TASER develops, assembles and markets less-lethal, conducted energy weapons primarily for use in the law enforcement and corrections market. Its advanced TASER weapon offers improved performance over other less-lethal force options used by law enforcement agencies.
Demand for TASER’s products and services have seen an impressive rise, particularly in the U.S., subsequent to increasing tensions between law enforcement officials and the public.
