Amazon OKs Season 5 of Award-Winning Series Transparent
Read MoreHide Full Article
Amazon.com Inc.'s (AMZN - Free Report) film production division, Amazon Studios, has greenlit the fifth season of its Golden Globe Award and multi-Emmy Award winning TV series, Transparent.
The production of the series will begin next year and is expected to premiere in 2018 exclusively for Prime Members.
The news comes on the heels of the announcement that the e-commerce behemoth will complete its acquisition of Whole FoodsMarket on Aug 28. The deal will open a window of opportunities for Amazon in the grocery store business.
Amazon has underperformed the industry on a year-to-date basis. The company’s shares have gained only 27.0%, lower than the industry’s gain of 50.2%.
About the Series
Transparent is a half-hour comedy-drama series that revolves around a Los Angeles family. The series deals with themes like identity, sex and love.
The show’s cast remains the same that boasts names like Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Duplass and Amy Landecker. The series has been written and directed by Jill Soloway. Andrea Sperling and Soloway will also continue as the executive producers of the series.
The series has been nominated for “Outstanding Comedy Series” twice in the past, and Tambor’s nomination marks his third-straight Emmy nod for his role in the show. The veteran actor took home the award both in 2015 and 2016.
The earlier seasons of Transparent are already available on Prime Video in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria via the Amazon Video app on TVs and connected devices like mobile, Fire TV, and online at Amazon.com/originals. Prime members can view the shows at no additional cost.
Our Take
The increasing popularity of tablets, smartphones and web-connected TVs has enhanced online-video viewing and continues to attract consumers as well as leading technology companies, like Alphabet (GOOGL - Free Report) and Apple Inc. (AAPL - Free Report) .
Hence, Amazon is leaving no stone unturned to boost its digital media sales and attract new viewers, by adding various series and movies to its content lineup and making Prime Video more attractive.
With intense competition in online video content, majors such as Netflix, Inc, Hulu and HBO, are witnessing substantial success. It is natural for Amazon to compete against them with successful acts of its own. These award winning shows like The Man In The High Castle, Mozart In The Jungle, among others, are expected to help Amazon penetrate further into the growing streaming market, at a faster rate.
Tech stocks have been a major force behind the market’s record highs, but picking the best ones to buy can be tough. There’s a simple way to invest in the success of the entire sector. Zacks has just released a Special Report revealing one thing tech companies literally cannot function without. More importantly, it reveals 4 top stocks set to skyrocket on increasing demand for these devices. I encourage you to get the report now – before the next wave of innovations really take off.
