Fund Description

The fund was incepted in May 1994 and is managed by Federated Investment Management Company. The fund's investment objective is to seek total return with an emphasis on income and capital appreciation. The fund invests in two types of assets namely equities and fixed income. The fund invests 30%-50% of its assets in equity securities, and 50%-70% of its assets in fixed income securities. The fund manages itself based on the view that the investment performance of the portfolio over the long term depends primarily on the fact that the portfolio consists of securities from multiple categories. Of secondary importance to the fund's performance is allocation of the portfolio among asset categories in response to market conditions and the selection of securities within asset categories. The fund allocates portfolios among the following asset categories, in such proportions as the fund from time-to-time determines, consistent with the long-term ranges set by it. The fund's equity portfolio is allocated among large company stocks, small company stocks and foreign stocks and the fund's fixed income portfolio is allocated among U.S. government securities, mortgage-backed securities, investment grade corporate debt, non-investment grade corporate debt ('junk bonds') and foreign fixed income securities. The fund offers dividends quarterly and capital gains annually.
