As promised, today I'd like to begin with the Zacks Rank, our quantitative stock-rating system that harnesses earnings estimate revisions...the most powerful force impacting stock prices.

Using the Zacks Rank to your advantage isn't complicated at all. In fact, you can easily begin with our private Zacks #1 Rank List that's based on the power of earnings estimate revisions. Start your stock search with this roster of "best in class" picks that since 1988, has more than doubled the S&P 500 with an average gain of +24.2% per year.

But how does it work and why does it work so well?

It's unbiased and purely mathematical. We're not influenced by Wall Street or some agenda to determine the ratings. Instead, our formula uses trends in earnings estimate revisions to classify stocks into five groups: #1 Strong Buy, #2 Buy, #3 Hold, #4 Sell or #5 Strong Sell.

These ratings will help you determine which stocks to buy, hold and sell.

By now, I hope you've had a chance to check out the Zacks #1 Rank List. It's a powerful resource that narrows a universe of 4,400 stocks to just over 200. In fact, this private list is made up of the top 5% of stocks with the most potential.

These picks all have a Strong Buy rating, but not all top Zacks Rank stocks are created equal. Some are better than others. That's where the Zacks Style Scores come in.

Designed to complement the Zacks Rank, these individual Style Scores of A, B, C, D or F for Value, Growth and Momentum are assigned to each stock we cover. This enables you to narrow down the Zacks #1 Rank List to stocks that best fit your investing style.

You can even find stocks with the best scores across the board with the VGM Score of A, B, C, D, or F. It's a combination of the individual Style Scores for Value, Growth and Momentum, but it is not just an arithmetical average. It is actually a calibrated weighting of each individual style score.

The bottom line is that selecting stocks with a Rank of 1 or 2 and Style Score of A or B will lead to even better performance.
