Consensus estimates are more advantageous because they reduce the risk of any single analyst making an incorrect forecast. ZACKS CONSENSUS ESTIMATE = THE AVERAGE OF ALL CURRENT EPS ESTIMATES. EPS Surprise is the difference (expressed as a percentage) between the actual reported quarterly earnings per share (EPS) vs the estimated quarterly EPS.
