CVS Health (CVS - Free Report) and Adapt Pharma recently announced a partnership aimed at making the opioid overdose-reversing drug NARCAN Nasal Spray more reasonably priced for patients without insurance coverage.
NARCAN (naloxone hydrochloride), designed by Adapt Pharma, is the first and only U.S Food and Drug Administration-approved ready-to-use nasal spray for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdoses.
Notably, as per the deal, patients purchasing NARCAN from CVS Pharmacy will get a discount coupon worth $35. This reduces the out of pocket cost by approximately 25%. Moreover, to avoid prescription drug abuse and to increase access of naxalone for patients, CVS Health has managed to eliminate the need of a prescription for naxalone through a standing order from a physician. CVS pharmacy patients will get an access to this life saving drug expectedly by Aug 2016 in 31 states across the U.S.
We believe this partnership will drive the top line for the company over the long haul.
