Shares of low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways Corporation (JBLU - Free Report) have been performing well of late. The stock comfortably outperformed the Zacks categorized Transportation-Airline industry over the last three months. The stock has gained 26.86% compared with the industry, which has advanced 21.47% over the same period.
The carrier’s constant efforts to expand its presence are not only highly encouraging but also one of the reasons behind the outperformance. The Long Island City, NY-based carrier recently announced that it aims to expand its service to Bermuda. The additional flights will be in operation from May 18, 2017.
JetBlue currently utilizes the 100-seater Embraer (ERJ - Free Report) 190 aircraft for its Bermuda operations. The proposed usage of the more spacious 150-seat Airbus, A320 planes for its new service to the island nation, which has emerged as an attractive tourist spot, highlights its growing focus on the aircraft.
Currently, JetBlue offers seasonal (summer) service connecting Boston and Bermuda. However, from May 18, the operations connecting the cities will increase to a year-round daily service. The other year-round service will connect New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport. Moreover, the carrier will operate a second daily roundtrip between the destinations to cater to the surge in demand during the summer season.
