Read MoreHide Full Article
Toyota Motor Corporation (TM - Free Report) announced the recall of 79,000 Tundra pickup trucks of model years 2016 and 2017. Per the company, the rear bumpers of these trucks have steps and reinforcement brackets made of resin. This makes the step susceptible to damage when the truck is in reverse gear and hits something. It can also break if a person steps on it.
To fix this issue, Toyota dealers will replace the resin reinforcement brackets with steel ones. The company will start sending notice for the recall from the middle of next month. The recall will cover trucks in the U.S., Canada and Central America.
Safety recalls and related costs have become a major issue for most automakers. (HMC - Free Report) , to replace defective Takata airbag inflators that can explode in a crash, sending metal shrapnel into the passenger compartments.
