Delta has been looking to strengthen its Asian presence for quite some time. Consolidated traffic – measured in revenue passenger miles (RPMs) – came in at 19.14 billion, up 1.7% year over year. However, consolidated capacity (or available seat miles/ASMs) was flat at 22.07 billion on a year-over-year basis. Moreover, passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM: a measure of unit revenue) increased 3.5% in the month. The impressive traffic report and the PRASM update pleased investors leading to an uptick in stock price on Jun 2.
In fact, shares of Delta have been performing well lately. The stock has ascended 5.9%, outperforming the Zacks categorized Transportation-Airline industry’s gain of 3% over the last one month.
Its expansion efforts are a further positive for the stock.
Shares of Air France-KLM, Deutsche Lufthansa and Hawaiian Holdings gained over 57%, 35% and 6%, respectively, over a period of three months.
