Earnings season officially kicks off this week with the Big Banks and a handful of other bellwether names leading the charge.
While there are only about 45 names, all eyes will be on the big financials. The “Big Four” are reporting, including JP Morgan, Citigroup, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, but there are also a handful of big regional banks that will report this week as well.
Which of these banks has the best earnings beat track records?
Not every bank has been able to beat nearly every quarter the last 5 years. It’s not as easy as you think.
The Financial ETF (XLF) is also trading at 10-year highs thanks to rallies in some of these stocks. Which ones have momentum and will another earnings beat propel them even higher?
Here’s the banks to watch this week:
The 5 Best Big Bank Earnings Charts
1. JP Morgan (JPM - Free Report) has beat 7 quarters in a row. Shares are now at 5-year highs. Is an even bigger breakout coming after the report?
2. Citigroup (C - Free Report) hasn’t missed since early 2015 but look at that chart. Shares are soaring. Citigroup is suddenly the darling of Wall Street once again. Can it keep this momentum?
3. Bank of America (BAC - Free Report) saw its shares stall out for most of 2017 but even BAC has suddenly moved higher as the financials got hot in September. Will a beat push shares into a whole new level?
4. PNC Financial (PNC - Free Report) , the Pittsburgh-based regional bank, has missed just once in 5 years. That’s among the best track records this week. Will it keep its streak alive?
5. First Republic Bank is a large bank based in San Francisco that is riding the wave of wealth being generated in Silicon Valley. It has the best 5-year chart of the big banks this week. But it’s coming off a rare miss last quarter. Will it redeem itself?

It's hard to believe, even for us at Zacks. But while the market gained +18.8% from 2016 - Q1 2017, our top stock-picking screens have returned +157.0%, +128.0%, +97.8%, +94.7%, and +90.2% respectively.
And this outperformance has not just been a recent phenomenon. Over the years it has been remarkably consistent. From 2000 - Q1 2017, the composite yearly average gain for these strategies has beaten the market more than 11X over. Maybe even more remarkable is the fact that we're willing to share their latest stocks with you without cost or obligation. See Them Free>>
