Sierra Delivers FirstNet Approved Router for Public Safety
Read MoreHide Full Article
Sierra Wireless, Inc. recently unveiled the new AirLink MG90 high-performance LTE-Advanced Pro multi-network vehicle router, designed specifically to provide secure and constant connectivity for mission critical applications. This is the first device to be deemed FirstNet Ready.
Understanding FirstNet
To better understand the motive behind Sierra’s newly-launched router, let us first talk about what FirstNet is. FirstNet is the nationwide public safety interoperable communications platform, which enables quick and efficient information sharing across disciplines and jurisdictions to improve situational awareness. This platform seeks to bring advanced technology to public safety agencies and first responders of the United States, and better manage time and critical information effectively. The FirstNet network is being developed by AT&T (T - Free Report) in public-private partnership with the FirstNet Authority.
Unique Features of the New AirLink MG90
Given the prime importance of the function of FirstNet usable devices, these are subject to numerous tests encompassing many aspects ranging from security and durability to network functionality. Only upon passing these tests, the devices are considered suitable to meet the public safety needs and certified as FirstNet Ready — a designation given by AT&T to Sierra’s new AirLink MG90 router. The router is based on the company’s AirPrime EM7511 embedded module. It boasts an extensive multi-network connectivity and offers a range of communication standards like dual LTE-Advanced Pro, Dual Concurrent Gigabit Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, with extensions to Land Mobile Radio and satellite systems. It also supports the 700MHz Band 14 spectrum, which is dedicated for public safety, with 3G fallback and integrated GNSS, delivering up to 600Mbps downlink speed and 150Mbps uplink speed.
Sierra is a leading manufacturer of device-to-cloud solutions for the Internet of Things and has been providing mission critical communication capabilities for more than fifteen years. It has enabled public safety agencies to roll out reliable and cost-effective wireless solutions, winning the trust and partnership of more than half of the 100 best public safety organizations in the United States.
AirLink MG90 routers supporting LTE-Advanced Pro and FirstNet Band 14 have been made commercially available through Sierra’s authorized channel partners, along with upgrading options for existing AirLink MG90 units that are already deployed.
Price Performance
In the past six months, the stock has lost 22% against the industry's 0.8% rise. It remains to be seen whether the new first-of-its-kind device can take advantage of the powerful relationship with AT&T’s FirstNet network and rake in more revenues.
Comtech has an expected long-term earnings growth rate of 5%.
Motorola has an expected long-term earnings growth rate of 8%.
Wall Street’s Next Amazon
Zacks EVP Kevin Matras believes this familiar stock has only just begun its climb to become one of the greatest investments of all time. It’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in pure genius.
